Lithium batteries are typically dry, meaning that they do not contain any free-flowing liquid electrolyte. Instead, they use a solid or gel-like electrolyte, which enables the transport of ions between the electrodes while minimizing the risk of leakage or thermal runaway. However, some lithium batteries, such as lithium-ion and lithium-polymer batteries, may contain a small amount of liquid electrolyte that is absorbed into the battery’s porous separator material.
